Description:
Considering that common ownership means that Maserati and Ferrari co-developed the GranTurismo S’s 4.7-liter V8 between them, the GranTurismo S couldn’t be more different than its mid-engined distant cousin, the F430. Aside from the additional displacement, producing a healthy 433 horsepower, there’s the layout—Maserati places the engine up front, just behind the front axle, for a classic GT experience with modern weight distribution. The theme continues to the exterior, where famed design firm Pininfarina clothed the coupe in a riot of curves, making the GranTurismo S seem ready to pounce at a moment’s notice. The styling is modern and aggressive, conveying the long and storied Maserati heritage forward into a new era. A quick glance at the dashboard will confirm this blending of old and new, as the traditional blue-faced analog gauges flank a central LED shift indicator. Then there are the sounds made by the throaty dual exhaust, which would impress the famous Maserati racers of yore as much as they wow modern drivers. Spooling up the quick-revving V8 is a real treat, and while the GranTurismo S isn’t designed to be a racecar, it’s perfectly at home on a twisty course.
